Welcome to the South Brazos County Fire Department
Since 1977, volunteer firefighters have provided fire suppression, rescue, and first responder emergency medical services within the District’s 144-square mile service area in South Brazos County. In 1998, the Wellborn and Millican volunteer fire departments merged to form the all-volunteer South Brazos County Fire Department (SBCFD). Today, the volunteer members of the SBCFD contract with Brazos County ESD 1 to provide emergency services alongside the paid crews employed by the District in an ISO Class 5/5Y community, mostly rural in nature, with a resident population of just over 20,000. The area also includes a major highway and rail line.
